Privacy Policy
DRAFT for the site owner to review before launch. This is a plain-language starting point, not legal advice.
DeepDrift (“we”, “us”) respects your privacy and handles personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
What we collect, and why
- Enquiries. If you use the “Looking for help?” form we receive your name, email address and message. We use them only to reply to you.
- Shared catches. If you share a catch we publish the name and surname you enter, your optional SASAA number, and the catch details (species, date, place, weight, lure, notes) on this website for anyone to see. If you add a photo of your catch, we publish that too. The photo is shrunk and stripped of camera location data when you upload it, and it is shown only after we approve the catch. Only upload photos you took or have permission to share, and ask us to remove a photo at any time. You agree to this by ticking the box on the form.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use advertising trackers on this website.
Technical information
To protect the catch log and contact form from abuse we keep a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address. It cannot be turned back into your address, and it is erased automatically after 30 days. The catch or enquiry itself is kept until you ask us to delete it. Your browser also stores a private key for catches you posted, so you can delete them later.
Fonts
The fonts on this website are stored on the website itself. Loading a page does not contact Google or any other font service.
Spam protection
The catch form and the “Looking for help?” form use Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a person, not an automated program, is sending them. To do this Cloudflare processes technical information from your browser, such as your IP address and browser details. It does not use them for advertising. See Cloudflare’s Turnstile privacy addendum.
Your rights
You may ask us to see, correct or delete your personal information, including a catch you shared, by emailing [email protected]. You may also complain to the Information Regulator (inforeg.org.za).
